With reference to your letter (No.42050/J) of the 14th March, enclosing a copy of correspondence with the London Chamber of Commerce on the subject of cargo ex the German S.S. "Bayern" at Naples and requesting that a statement may be furnished with regard to the incorporation of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corpora- tion Limited, I am directed by the Board of Trade to state, for Mr. Secretary Balfour's information, that this Company is registered

in Hong Kong.

The documents required by Section 274 of the Companies (Consolidation) Act 1908 to be filed by a Company incorporated outside the United Kingdom, but having a place of business within the United Kingdom, have been duly furnished, but these do not give particulars of the Shareholders of the Company.

I am to add that the Colonial Office may have some information

with regard to the Company.
